The Boy, and President, who cried Wolf; Obama’s dramatics don’t align with fiscal reality.
Wow, who knew that 2% of the budget did so much. Who knew that 2 cents on the dollar had that kind of impact on our economy. Who knew $85B went so far. Makes you wonder why GDP growth is still 2% and unemployment 8% after spending $1T in stimulus and adding $1T per year to the baseline budget since. Obama knows $85B is a rounding error in Washington spending. There are three issues at work. 1. Make sure spending goes up forever to concentrate power in Washington, and more specifically the White House. 2. Grab more taxes to redistribute more wealth like any good Marxist would do. 3. Demonize and defeat the GOP.
From George Will:
As in: Batten down the hatches — the sequester will cut $85 billion from this year’s $3.6 trillion budget! Or: Head for the storm cellar — spending will be cut 2.3 percent! Or: Washington chainsaw massacre — we must scrape by on 97.7 percent of current spending! Or: Chaos is coming because the sequester will cut a sum $25 billion larger than was just shoveled out the door (supposedly, but not actually) for victims of storm Sandy! Or: Heaven forfend, the sequester will cut 47 percent as much as was spent on the AIG bailout! Or: Famine, pestilence and locusts will come when the sequester causes federal spending over 10 years to plummet from $46 trillion all the way down to $44.8 trillion! Or: Grass will grow in the streets of America’s cities if the domestic agencies whose budgets have increased 17 percent under President Obama must endure a 5 percent cut!
The sequester has forced liberals to clarify their conviction that whatever the government’s size is at any moment, it is the bare minimum necessary to forestall intolerable suffering.
Obama is an ideologue and an idiot. He also thinks you are. His claims to have cut $2.4T are comical. Projecting you will spend $46T over 10 years, then saying you will only spend $44T is not the same as cutting. Especially when that annual level of spending increases by over $1T per year at the end of the planning period. Only in Washington can you take credit for that. The sequester cuts are to future spending and are off a run rate that has risen by 17% over the past 4 years. How on earth did we limp buy four years ago on only $3.2T?
The real record:
On April 1, 2008 (the midpoint in the federal fiscal year which ends on Sept. 30), there were 303,381,938 people in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and on April 1, 2012 there were 313,336,712.
The $3,176,376,470,000 that the federal government spent in fiscal 2008 equaled $10,469.89 for each of the 303,381,938 people who lived in the United States that year. The $3,538,446,000,000 the federal government spent in fiscal 2012 equaled $11,292.79 for each of the 313,336,712 people who lived in the United States that year.
And we still havent seen a budget from the President or the Senate. How the hell do we know what we can or can’t afford? They refuse to tell us. This from the same bunch of self-righteous Marxists that lampoon corporations for daring to earn money for shareholders. The same group of marxist demanding certain segments of the economy pay more in taxes while they hand on Billions in tax breaks and subsidies to corporate supporters. Obama’s Organize for America is granting access to Obama for $500K in donations. Riddle me this – why is a man with no elections left still fund-raising?
But I digress. Obama remains focused on fundamentally transforming America. He is looking to redistribute wealth while he and his ruling elite live above the fray playing golf with Tiger Woods and skiing in Colorado.
